The United States Post Office at Cushing, Texas in Historic Nacogdoches County


The new United States Post Office was constructed in 2002 and sits in the location of the Old Railroad Depot
which existed here from 1903 to 1979 and then was moved west about one block to the northeast corner of
8th and Walnut across the street from the Cushing Fire Department where it is Now serves as the City Library.
The Railroad Tracks ran East to West coming from Nacogdoches. (This picture looks Eastward). The Wallace
Hotel which existed from about 1900 to 1936 when in burned was just to the north and had a boardwalk that ran
to the depot over the creek area that is still there. Behind the Post Office in a large open field is a small weigh
station that contains a unique set of antiquated Fairbanks Morris scales that were used in the early days of the
Railroad Depot.
